Case Study: Jothoor Alarabiya

An innovative educational program designed to revitalise and promote the Arabic language among young learners — by strengthening participants’ Arabic language skills across reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Transforming STEAM Education in Qatar

Jothoor Alarabiya is an innovative educational program designed to revitalise and promote the Arabic language among young learners. The program was inspired by the challenges faced in teaching Arabic effectively, such as outdated educational methods, reduced use of Arabic in daily life, and the scarcity of high-quality Arabic resources.

Overview and Objectives

Jothoor Alarabiya was conceived to counter the decline in Arabic language use among Arab communities. Recognizing the pivotal role language plays in shaping identity, values, and culture, the program aims to provide a robust, engaging, and personalised learning experience for children aged 3 to 15. The ultimate goal is to strengthen the participants’ Arabic language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Target audience

Jothoor Alarabiya is targeted towards parents with a busy lifestyle, who appreciate the importance of the Arabic language for the rising generation. The program also targets schools for after-school activities, providing a structured and effective Arabic language curriculum.

Key challenges

The program addresses several key challenges. It combats the reduced use of Arabic in homes, schools, and workplaces by making learning accessible and engaging. By employing modern digital educational techniques, Jothoor Alarabiya overcomes the limitations of traditional teaching methods. The program also provides high-quality, accessible resources to support Arabic language learning.

Program structure

Jothoor Alarabiya is structured into 9 main levels, each subdivided into three stages.

  • The basic stage focuses on foundational skills such as recognizing Arabic letters, understanding their shapes in different word positions, and basic reading and listening skills.

  • The intermediate stage emphasises the understanding of verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, with a focus on enhancing listening, writing, and reading skills.

  • The advanced stage develops complex skills, such as constructing sentences, understanding pronouns, place, and time, and improving overall language proficiency.

Key Components of Jothoor Alarabiya

Jothoor Alarabiya employs a personalised learning methodology based on self-learning, spaced repetition, and incremental steps. The program uses the Kumon method as a reference to ensure progressive learning. It integrates both the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) standards and general Arabic language standards worldwide.

The learning process begins with registration and level assignment, followed by the distribution of booklets and bi-weekly sessions. Participants receive weekly progress reports and feedback, culminating in an end-of-level test to ensure mastery before advancing.

The program offers both online and in-person tutorials. Students receive hard-copy and online booklets, with supporting videos to guide parents and students through the learning materials. Mentoring is available both face-to-face and digitally, ensuring comprehensive support.

Jothoor Alarabiya employs a variety of marketing strategies to drive participation, including social media campaigns on Instagram and Facebook, content marketing through infographics, email marketing targeting schools, and influencer collaborations.
